on the 2004 Lost Soul Ultra - much thanks for all your kind words!
I
just
participated in the 100 mile race this weekend in Lethbridge.
I have only ever run 50 km (I just started running ultras this
year) but wanted to see how far I could go - I made it 100 km!
Thank you for making that happen. It was a beautiful course with
awesome volunteers. I look forward to returning next year and
tackling that last 60 km!
Thanks again,
Pam Harrison
Hi
Terry:
I
just wanted to congratulate you and give you a big thank you for
organizing such a great race this year! We really appreciate all
the hours and effort you put in as this year's Race Director.
This
was my first Ultra and it was an amazing experience!!

Terry,
I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to you and
all the many folks who helped put on such a great event. It is
truly a phenomenal undertaking that must have as many volunteers
as racers and likely more volunteer hours than racer hours too!
As a race director of an 8K crosscountry event in Calgary for
the Roadrunners, I have some understanding of what a huge organizational
challenge this must be.
I loved the course and the scenery was gorgeous. It was a real
tribute to the hours of planning and scouting to make the course
work so well and at the same time showcase the natural beauty
of the area.
As for the rock awards - that is amazing as well. I don't know
story behind how they are done and how long it takes to do each
one but that effort in itself must be worth sharing in more detail
with the participants. (Perhaps a little printed insert with the
race package or on the web site?) I know my rock will be prominently
displayed and there is no way it can ever be forgotten among the
numerous event medals I've got hanging in anonymity together on
a hook.
Again, my sincere thanks for all of the effort that went into
making this such a special and memorable event.
Yours truly,
Hugh Magill
Hi
Terry,
I had a blast. It was a real adventure in the coulees and I can't
wait to come back next year.
The volunteers at the aid stations took such good care of me,
I couldn't have done this without them.

Terry,
You Lethbridge guys put on a great race as I've already stated.
Please personally forward my written thanks herein to the 4 individuals
that helped keep my feet from disintegrating Friday evening thereby
allowing me to finish the race. There was one lady at Peenaquin
about 1915 who spent ~ 20 minutes temporarily fixing my feet up,
and 2 ladies and a gent at Pavan who worked hard for ~ 45 minutes
doing a great job in making a more permanent fix to my feet at
~2330. My feet would have come apart without their expert help.
I"ll lose at least 5 and perhaps as many as seven toenails
and I've got two very nasty open blisters with several other lesser
ones. Both feet are still quite puffed up but starting to get
better now. That repeated sidehill, downhill coulee stuff just
gradually destroys my feet! Those last downhills were simply sheer
dread given the fact that I knew each step no matter if taken
straight down or sideways was going to be oh so painful!!! W/o
your volunteers' good aid earlier in race, I just wouldn't have
been able to make it!
One last request if not to difficult to do: Can you show the lap
times along with total time when you post the web results for
the 100K and 100M races? I would find that add'l info useful (as
would others I'm sure).
Kindest regards to you and all your race volunteers,
Paul Doyle (# 4)
Hi
Terry, could you pls post this.
Everything was absolutely great about the ultra (I did the 50)!!
except I came home without a coat. It is a Running Room running
coat, large size. It is red and black (but not a bright red).
I got to Peenaquin station at 10:43, it was hot, and a wonderful
man volunteer asked if I wanted to leave my coat. I said I wasn't
sure because it didn't have my name on it. He said "it'll
be the red smelly one!!". I think he put it in the tent.
I checked the lost and found on Sat, and it wasn't there. I borrowed
the coat from my daughter-in-law, so I feel bad about loosing
it. there are about a million of these coats out there, so it
was likely picked up by mistake. Please check. Thanks

My
two running mates and I had a great time running the 50km.
Thanks for all your great work. Bill Nielsen
Hi
Terry,
You and the
Volunteers did a great job putting on a fun event. Thanks go out
to the finisher awards crew... they "rock". I missed
the Sunday morning Awards as I had to leave Saturday afternoon
to make flight conections back to Portland, Oregon. My 30 lbs.
engraved finishers rock started feeling heavy as I shuttling it
around three airports. There was a nice decorative water fall
in the Vancouver Airport lined with large stones where my Lost
Soul finishers rock almost was laid to rest... But I got it through
customs with no problems and I am glad to have it as a keep sake
from the event. The Tile award did not fair so well and broke
into several piece on the way home (maybe a protective cardboard
sleeve would have prevented the damage).
The course
was deceptive because of the slow going in the coulees, due in
part to steep ups and downs and difficult footing in places. The
elevation change shown on the web site did not fully reveal what
was in store. However, this is no more of a problem to an experienced
trail runner than to a skier who seeks out terain more challenging
than the bunny slopes. Trails do not all have to be flat, smooth
and fast - variety is a good thing and the Lost Soul Ultras have
plenty of it; flat, steep up, steep downs, slooping, rocky, grass,
dirt, cows, deer, etc. Thanks for putting on an enjoyable event!
